Dental crowns are used to restore, protect and support teeth that can no longer support themselves. Often after a tooth has received a root canal treatment the dentist will advise you that a crown needs to be placed in order to restore and protect the tooth from any further damage in its weakened state. Other reasons teeth may need crowns is due to being weakened by cracks and heavy restorations. A crown is generally created over two very comfortable appointments. The first appointment is when the models are taken and the tooth is prepared to receive the crown. The second appointment is the fitting and cementing of the crown onto the prepared tooth.
